My mom, who fled the Iran islamic revolution in the 80s by getting into a british university, has absolutely fallen in LOVE with the white supremacy overtones of the institution in Nimona. When I called her on the phone earlier she was talking about her own experiences as the single brown woman in a class of white men, how the university administration was charging her exorbitant amounts and would refuse to help her in the same ways that they helped their british students.

She kept talking about how all the nights were these blonde white men, and that the commoners were the only place you saw any diversity in the film.

Nimona has such beautiful, incredible anti-homophobia, anti-transphobia, and anti-ablism themes, and above all it talks about the dangers of "othering" people. As a mixed queer woman with health problems I am so in love with this movie.

This movie is important.
